The BELATEDS!

A little movie played in her head. The Belateds running down the street, chased by their adoring fans, girls and boys and cameras. A Pandora’s Box of energy had been released that couldn’t be shut, that hollered after them as they flew. Music made an atmosphere. An electric cloud surrounded them wherever they went, city after city, country after country, freight trains and airplanes, buses and boats. On 19th Street in Seattle, The Belateds could play on the roof, there was room for them there, by the chimney and the TV aerial. Up in the airwaves, transmitting, with the whole town blanketing around, a haunted kingdom changed by a pebble dropped into a rain-soaked pond.
