Seagull Saga

Big news in new novel I'm writing.
Our hero Don Wilson (in seagull form)
has stopped talking as Cary Grant.
Now he has John Wayne's voice!
I'll share some of this adventure
soon. I never know where it's going,
we're all on this adventure together.

2 Tin Can Reviews

Received 2 very nice reviews of
THE TIN CAN TELEPHONE
today. It's always great to hear
that people are reading these
books and enjoying them.

From poet Larry Smith:

I have been awakened by birds and sit here at the other end of a very long string stretching back 5 decades to a sensitive kid at the other end of a Tin Can Telephone. Somehow he's been able to transmit his keen drawings from that time of growing up in 1970s Seattle. Allen, the birds and your book are a blessing.

From musician Rob Millis.
Really enjoyed Tin Can Telephone. And the drawings…With a lot of your writing you are becoming a fantastic documenter of Seattle…trying to return to that time, which you can’t. You sort of mention this in your book how we can all time travel if we need to—and you have that ability through writing or the Tin Can Telephone to go back in time and be with those memories. And your book makes it palpable to readers…and makes us think it’s possible for all of us to do that.

Thanks for reading!
Hope you get a chance to read this
and other Good Deed Rain books
too.

classy gull

I'm getting ready to share a section
of my new novel in progress. This is
from the chapter where Don Wilson
discovers that not only is he a seagull,
he speaks with Cary Grant's voice!

Starring Don Wilson

Loyal readers (cue the crickets)
will be glad to know I've been
working on a new novel. It stars
a character I named Don Wilson
(eternal thanks to The Jack Benny
Show). Don has just been turned
into a seagull--this after being
chased around the city by a wheezy
tiger in a cowboy hat. Don't worry
though. Don is a trooper! More on
this book as it progresses. I'm
halfway through the second
notebook, it's running along
smoothly. And fun to write!
Meanwhile, look in the sky...
that seagull you see might be
Don Wilson!

The Tin Can Telephone ring

Today is the official publication day
for THE TIN CAN TELEPHONE.
It's one of my favorite books, a
time travel trip back to being 10
in 1975 Seattle. When I was writing
it this past winter, all of a sudden
out of the blue my old friend James
contacted me. Must have been
something in the airwaves. He
plays a part in this book, although
I changed his name to Jesse. I sent
him a copy of the book and he told
me, "Yesterday I was walking with
my 10 year old and told her about
your book. It brings back a lot of
memories but most of all the
memories of the imagination."
I'm sharing page 50 of this little
novel, where we are going to see
a Disneyland Jules Verne movie.
Hope everyone gets a chance to
read this book! Thanks

painting

Finished rereading Vonnegut's novel
Bluebeard (1987) and enjoyed it again.
Also reread his Deadeye Dick (1982)
which has to do with painting too.
(That one is quite a bit bleaker!)
Been thinking about painters lately
and in fact the new novel I'm writing
features one. He's inspired by a big
painting I saw at an antique store
in town. You'll know more about
my new book later. I'm about halfway
through writing it, I reckon. At the
moment our heroes are being chased
by a tiger through the city. A tiger
who wears a cowboy hat. Stay tuned!
