peddler's lament

Had a disappointing trip to the university bookstore. I was hoping to leave these 4 books for the Faculty/Staff shelf. The manager told me they are discontinuing that space. There doesn’t seem to be any home for my books—where are the interesting stores? Do I need to get a donkey cart and peddle them in another enlightened century? I couldn’t help but laugh a little, carrying the books back outdoors, I know these are great and there are so many more to share, and I know people will enjoy them one day.

0-120 excerpt

I'm working on getting the next book ready for publication, due Thanksgiving. This one will be an illustrated collection of short stories. Here's a sneak preview at a page spread for Chapter 9. This story came to me after I was walking downtown and saw a sign for a store that said they serve everyone ages 0-120.

progression

Now that A Red Leaf Boat and Forest and Field are being published on Halloween, I’m busy with 4 more books on the way! I’m getting a new book of short stories ready for Thanksgiving. I’m also working on editing two new novels, and currently writing a third. Sneak preview: these novels feature Neptune, Mars and Paris, and a family of weasels. Who needs Paramount Pictures anymore when you’ve got these in your future!

scarecrow advice

This morning, walking the dog in the wood, I met an old woman and old man who were stopped where the path branched into two. They told me they weren't sure which way to go. I said, "Well, you know what the scarecrow said in the Wizard of Oz?" I figured they'd seen it when this town had big beautiful movie theatres with curtain screens. I swung one arm, "You could go that way..." then swung my other arm, "Of course that way is nice too." That's when their dog barked at me.

feather

On my lunchbreak walk in the woods, I found this big feather. I reckoned it's from an owl, but a birdish-looking fellow who suddenly appeared on the path behind me said it's a hawk feather.

FABLE

Thank you Mr. King! I guffawed out loud when I saw this illustration for Chapter 24 of Fairy Tale, of the demented monster threatening their land. A wee bit familiar?
