keith abbott

I've been enjoying Keith Abbott's
short story collection The First Thing
Coming. Keith was kind enough to
write the back cover blurb for my
first book, OHIO TRIO (2001).

seeing richard

Enjoyed the new book of photographs
of Richard Brautigan by Erik Weber.
I was fortunate enough to interview
John Barber a few years ago:

pilgrims

Fred recommended I read "The Unlikely Pilgrimage
of Harold Fry" by Rachel Joyce.

I finished reading it last week, at the same time
I watched Harry Langdon's 1926 film
"Tramp Tramp Tramp" which has another
great surreal Langdon moment with him
climbing over a fence to a mile drop on
the other side.

1927

Just watched Harry Langdon's1927
movie 'Long Pants.' I can't believe
people used to leave alligators in boxes
along the city streets.

Gigantic Elf

I've been lugging around this new biography
of one of my favorite film stars, HARRY LANGDON.
LITTLE ELF is filled with his amazing story, with
hundreds of pictures and it's a gigantic book,
even bigger than the Bellingham phonebook!
By the way, the new phonebook did arrive yesterday
--it was raining, a white van pulled up along the curb
and some highschool kid jumped out the sliding door
and ran up the driveway, while his mother waited.
It could be a scene from a Harry Langdon film!

J. Genius Suggests

Was talking with J.Genius during the break from work
about a scene in the novel I'm writing now.
He suggested these two Sherman Alexie
books; very good reads. I especially like "Salt."
