Theodore Sturgeon (the basis for Vonnegut's Kilgore Trout) wrote a 1956 story called "And Now the News..." about a man who is utterly obsessed by the news. When his wife secretly disables the TV and the radio, his mind goes blank. He can't even read anymore! He leaps into his car and drives far into the mountains and becomes a recluse artist on the edge of a cliff. Until the infamous last sentence.

Scarry World

Good old Richard Scarry! This book was a big hit way back in the day. And as I’m preparing four new books for publication, I’m getting some good Scarry inspiration for the next novel. If you read Half a Giraffe and Old Salt, you’ll know I like to have animals wandering around the town among the people. Fans of robots will be glad to know Cronco might be returning with his magician sidekick. I just have to finish a story I’m writing about Waukegan (of all places) then I can dive into The Scarry World!
