this is another life

I've been reading Ray Bradbury
and he reminded me of this old poem
from Another Life.

This is Who

So this is who walks around at 2 AM

in the neighborhood all blacked out

except for the tall amber street lamps

spaced every block and a half

I’m out walking the baby

in charge of wide-eyed insomnia

when the leaves of the willow

rattle behind us and ahead

a rabbit darts over the street

silent as a dream going home

to sleeping home

2 new books on the way

Good Deed Rain is busy preparing
2 NEW BOOKS for August publication!
They are both fully illustrated throughout.
Here are a couple drawings from them,
by Fred Sodt, and Aaron Gunderson.
Stay tuned for more on these amazing
adventures...

the vinegar syndrome

I just read a very interesting new book
about collecting and preserving movies,
A Thousand Cuts, by Bartok & Joseph.
(I didn't know about the vinegar syndrome,
which sounds like a Perry Mason title).

waldo

Enjoyed Kim Deitch's book Alias the Cat
featuring the return of his star feline
Waldo. Amazing imagination.

hunter

Celebrated the holiday by reading
new book, Hunter S. Thompson: The Last
Interview. "The American government
is the greatest enemy of freedom around
the world," he said back in 2002. Alas.

proof copy arrived

The new Good Deed Rain
proof copy of Almost Animals
just arrived. It looks great!
It is available for ordering
from Amazon.

Chans

I watched Dark Alibi (1946)
one of the last Charlie Chan
movies starring Sidney Toler.
It involved the same mystery
as Stephen King's latest book
The Outsider, where a man
who is innocent has left his
fingerprints at the scene of a crime.
When I saw The Chinese Ring (1947)
the first in series starring Roland
Winters taking over role as Chan,
it seemed curious that nobody in
the cast (especially family and
Birmingham) noticed that he had
changed. (This also happened
previously with Warner Oland
as first Chan). I'm inspired by
that idea of a reincarnated
detective.
