little favorites
These are two of my favorite books
when I was little. In an alternate America
I make a living making books like these.
and there are plenty more to be seen
meandering around the years of my blog.

seymour splashdown
Last night I was reading in the bathtub
a dangerous luxury I know though
I've never had a casualty before
until I accidentally dropped my copy
of Salinger's Seymour into the hot water.
Fortunately, I have another one.

books

I just read HOW I GOT TO BE THIS HIP
a book of essays by Barry Farrell which
includes a great story about Allen Ginsberg.
Also reread Salinger's novella collection:
RAISE HIGH THE ROOF BEAM,
CARPENTERS/SEYMOUR.
I really enjoyed this book. Forgot how
funny Raise High...is. It would have made
a great movie directed by Preston Sturges.
And Seymour was actually a great help in
finding the voice of the narrator for my
beatlemania story.

beatlemania
I'm in the middle of writing a new story about a
Beatles-like group coming to town. Let's just say
it's the long awaited response to having a
teenage daughter and observing her rabid fascination
with Harry Potter, Doc Martin, Sherlock Holmes etc.
Need to watch Ringo in A HARD DAY'S NIGHT
for a little final inspiration.
