Jake came to visit me at the Library
on Brautigan's birthday. He brought
a pack of grape Kool-Aid. We snuck
through the school cafeteria and grabbed
a couple paper cups and shared the
strange beverage made famous by
The Kool-Aid Wino story.
We talked about our stories in progress,
especially Jake's sharp-shooter
old lady character. Then we talked
about our dogs. We both have golden
retrievers. His dog Rosie looks exactly
like our noble beast Zoe.

a Tasmanian Tiger) see:

In fact, they might be sisters. There's a lot of
variation in Lord Tweedmouth's breed.
That's the mad English inventor who shocked
the world with his concocted dog in 1880.
Jake mentioned Rosie's mother was named
Duchess. When we bought Zoe used for
$200, she came with a riffle of papers.
Her mother's name was also Duchess.
Duchess and pups (including Zoe and Rosie)
They also share the same father, Prince.
Suddenly, we realized our dogs are sisters!
It's like some 19th century Gothic drama.
In this rainy, cold winter town, after nine years
separated, two sisters have reappeared only
miles apart. I guess we'll have to see what
history is made when they meet...TV crews
and a sobbing, riveted audience...
Rosie
