Rereading one of my favorite books,
Roald Dahl's Danny, The Champion of
the World. Used to read this to my kids
in Ohio. This is my favorite version of it
too, with illustrations by Jill Bennett.

I don't know why, but out of the blue
I was thinking about The Flying Nun
TV show. For some reason I thought
Sally Field had magical powers to fly.
After doing some research, tracking
down the original paperback book,
The 15th Pelican, I'm surprised to find
that's not the case at all. It was all
scientific, based on weight, and lift
and aerodynamics. In other words,
anyone can fly given the right
conditions.

The next Good Deed Rain book is
fast approaching. It's Japanese inspired
with 4 adventures and 4 watercolors by me
(here's another one) and another beautiful
cover by Laura Vasyutynska (she also did
the cover for Different Planet). More soon.

Getting ready to publish another new book
with Good Deed Rain. This one is four
adventures: featuring Sylvan Moore,
a flying monk, a water salesman, and a
guardian rabbit. Below is an illustration

knute's book

I've been rereading Knute Skinner's great
memoir Help Me to a Getaway. Knute is
a fantastic poet living in Ireland. He used
to teach at WWU and was friends with
Robert Huff (subject of one of my essays).
This memoir is specifically about his travels
in Europe in 1958, a long ago dream. Very
fun read, as are Knute's many books of poems.
