reading 2 books

I'm reading two good books at the same time
THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO
and one of my favorite Stephen King books
HEARTS IN ATLANTIS, featuring the
mysterious Ted Brautigan. Together
they are inspiring the next book I'm
starting to write.

5 NOVELS, p.281:

May 26, 1968

RFK in Los Angeles, California, May 26, 1968:

“Pollution must be attacked by eliminating its sources rather than just ameliorating its effects…the need is clear for much more stringent control than now exists…Attempts to control the pollution of our water and atmosphere cannot be allowed to fail. The environment in which we live is part of us; when we degrade it, we degrade ourselves.”

By now, Robert F. Kennedy's time it almost out. 47 years ago, running for president, ghosting along the west coast, his spirit is a big part of my ROOSEVELT sequel book.

Finally, after putting the Herald building on the cover
of my book ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE
HOLY SAINT, the Herald will have a story about
my writing. It will appear on the first Thursday in June.

nairobi trio

I finally got around to showing the kids
the Ernie Kovacs notorious Nairobi Trio.
I was researching the TV times in
Bellingham back in 1962 and remembered
this sort of genius used to be on television.

sequel

My notebook is almost full
with the last chapter to
the sequel to ROOSEVELT
set in 1962.

Update: Finished writing the sequel
this last weekend. It's quite an
adventure, filled with local sights
real and imagined from a time
just before the highway ran through town.

May 11, 1968

RFK in Brookings, South Dakota, May 11, 1968

“We know too, I think, what the stakes are. It is not simply economic well-being—it is the survival of the enduring values of diversity in America, the fight against the loss of diverse ways of life, the battle to prevent America’s farms from becoming factories producing bland food and bland men, driving our citizens into homogenous cities, distinguished from each other only by the poisons in their air.”
